La Consolacion University Philippines officially broke ground on its soon-to-rise seven-storey building at a ceremony held on Wednesday, May 8.
The new structure, which will be named after the Our Lady of Perpetual Help, will rise on the lot beside the Café Monica Building.
Administrators and personnel came to witness the momentous event alongside several honored guests and sponsors.
The groundbreaking ceremony commenced with an opening song led by the LCUP Singers followed by a message from University President Sr. Editha Zerna, OSA, Ph.D.
“This notable project is the University’s manifestation of our continuous desire to offer quality and internationally comparable education,” the University President said in her speech.
She likewise stressed the importance of the new project, which was done in response to the growing number of enrollees of the University.
“The new building which will house additional classrooms and facilities will provide a more conducive teaching and learning environment. It will be an educational space and place for our growing number of students.”
Afterwards, Sr. Edith, with BOT Chairman Atty. Dominador Buhain and ASOLC Superior General Representative Sr. Eden Gicana, OSA, unveiled the design of the new infrastructure.
For the Liturgy of the Word, Mr. Roody Angelo Juan read from 1 Corinthians 3:9-11 which reminds us that our life’s foundation should be built on Jesus Christ alone. Mr. Jose Neal Tabingo, IEP Director, led the Responsorial Psalm.
For the Capsule Ceremony, Sr. Edith led the insertion of the floor plan while Sr. Ma. Victoria Gan, OSA, Sr. Joan Infante, OSA and Sr. Ma. Angelia Abando, OSA managed the insertion of the medallion. EVP/VPAA Dr. Alvin V. Nuqui, VP for REL Dr. Enrico Rosales and VP for Finance Ms. Marissa Ventura administered the insertion of the coins.
Meanwhile, Sr. Ma. Victoria Gan, OSA, Coordinator of the LCUP Religious Community, led the Ringing of the Bell.
LCUP Administrators, representatives of the Augustinian Sisters of Our Lady of Consolation, BOT members and guests each assumed their positions for the shovel ceremony.
Rev. Fr Cornelio Jaranilla, Jr., OCD, was the event presider while Mr. Ezekial Rodriguez, MPO Director, was the master of ceremonies.
The prospective Our Lady of Perpetual Help Building is one among the many legacies which the current administration will pass on to the next generation of Consolanians – a steadfast structure that will stand the test of time and will serve countless students in the years to come.
