The Community Extension Services and Outreach Program (CESOP), led by Dr. Maria Lourdes Cervantes, spearheaded the Tulong Dunong: Mga Kwento para sa Batang Agustino storytelling activity for the children of theTahanan Mapagkalinga ni Madre Rita (TMMR) on Thursday, May 30.
A total of 32 children between three to ten years old were chosen as particiants of the program. The storytellers were Dr. Enrico Rosales, VP for Research, and Ms. Jane Tricia Cruz, Research Associate.
Dr. Rosales read from the story “Ang Pambihirang Buhok ni Lola” by award-winning playwright and author Rene Villanueva which tells the tale of a grandmother with an extraordinarily long hair and resilient character. Ms. Cruz, meanwhile, presented the story “Nasaan si Kuya Emil?” by Germaine Yia which narrates a boy’s suspicions about his older cousin. Both stories imparted valuable lessons in an entertaining and easily understandable format for the children.
School supplies such as papers, pencils, crayons and bags were distributed among the children after the activity.
The program seeks to inculcate the habit of reading among the children of TMMR.
